Floriana registered their seventh consecutive win in the Relegation Pool as they defeated Hamrun Spartans to condemn the latter to playing in Division 1 next season. The Greens lacked Tony Warner and Steve Pisani.

Floriana took the lead on the 19th minute when Sacha Borg served Clyde Borg and off the latter’s cross, Igor Coronado’s first attempt was blocked by the goalkeeper, the ball bounced onto the Brazilian striker to end at the back of the net.

Hamrun Spartans replied with an Emiliano Lattes effort which was blocked by Jonathan Debono on 25 minutes.

The Spartans levelled matters on 31 minutes when off a cross from the right by Glenn Azzopardi, Massimo Grima slammed the ball past goalkeeper Jonathan Debono.

Substitute Luca Casha just failed to connect off an inviting cross from the right by Trevor Cilia on the 51st.

Three minutes later, Luca Casha put the Greens 2-1 ahead when served on the left by Cilia, beating Andrea Cassar with an angled shot.

The Greens made it 3-1 on 67 minutes, once again, thanks to Luca Casha who received a pass by Trevor Cilia, beating the Hamrun custodian with a shot from just inside the area.

Ten minutes from time, Roderick Fenech was sent off for the Spartans as he fouled Coronado just outside the area. From the resulting freekick, Igor Coronado’s attempt scraped past the post. Another Luca Casha effort from the left ended just wide.
